Summer Home Tour

Nautical Wreath  -  Wooden Buoys

I'm so glad to be part of this fabulous group of bloggers hand-picked by the gracious Marty from A Stroll Thru Life to give you a glimpse of our homes all decked out for Summer. 30 homes—5 days—lots of ideas to decorate your own home.

If you're stopping from Life on Virginia Street, welcome! I love Sarah's style, her office is one of the spaces I always want to check when visiting her home.

From Omaha, NE where Sarah lives, and as a matter of one simple click, you've traveled to Maryland where I'm located. Even though it's a coastal state, I don't live close to the ocean. but that doesn't mean I can't decorate my home in a coastal way during Summer.

A nautical wreath is the starting point for my home tour, it says it all, I went coastal all the way.

All the seashells our family picked from different beaches were the main ingredient for some of these tour decor pieces.  As many of you already know, it's hard for me to stay away from DIY projects. ;)

Let's start in the family room, where we hang out the most, alongside the kitchen.

starfish, shells, art project for mantel - summer - coastal - white lantern, wooden fish
Fish - Seashells Art Project

The focal point here is the art piece above the fireplace. It was a trial-and-error project, with tons of errors on my part. When you look closely at it, you can see many of the mistakes, but oh well, from a distance, it's OK for me.
white vases, seahorse, shells, fish net

The idea for this mantel was to make it feel like I'm there... At the beach.
tree stump wrapped up with rug - fish decor on table - lotus lamp, white chair with repurposed jeans pillow
Side Table  -  Painted Chairs

I might say yes. That goal was accomplished.

The pillows on the chairs, another DIY project, represent the waves in the ocean. Almost the same concept as the little side table.

Coffee Table  -  Baskets  -  Curtains

Fish, water, lanterns, shells...

The beach came to my family room. :)

On the coffee table are some wooden bead strands.
coastal kitchen green roman shade - open cupboards
Kitchen Island  -   Range Hood

The kitchen got a good, deep cleaning. Really! Though, it wasn't fun. :/

Cabinets, shelves, appliances, lights, and even the hood got squeaky clean. I do this twice a year, in addition to the many light cleanings in between. Not surprisingly, I never look forward to those days.

decor on kitchen island - flowers and fruits - oranges

Once again, simple decor comes to this space. The first hydrangea blossomed after two years of not getting a single one. Adorable! :)
white pitcher with lemonade, strawberries inside blue carton pail, white cabinets

Cold pink lemonade on a hot summer day is simply refreshing.
white kitchen, bar stools, sisal rug, blue island
Pendant Light  -  Bar Stools  -  Painted Cabinets

white and blue summer decor in dining room, sphere chandelier, blue lanterns, painted Chippendale chairs

On to the dining room.
Ginham napkins, anchor salad plates from Wegmans, blue water glasses, blue lanterns, white nautical rope, driftwood pieces on table
Blue and White Coastal Tablescape

I found the anchor salad plates over at Wegmans. They were the inspiration for this nautical tablescape.
DIY Swiss cross rug, ship wheel art, beach pillow, vintage bucket on coffee table

The contiguous living room stayed mostly the same. A ship wheel, a bucket full of boxwood from the garden...
bucket full of boxwood branches for summer decor, beach pillow, diy swiss cross rug
Beach Pillow  -  Painted Lamps

Summer hats hung on the vintage doors...

And a beach pillow on the sofa brings the theme to this room.

Day Bed  -  Red Lamps  -  Painted Floor

The only bedroom I want to include in this tour is the guest bedroom. Visitors are coming in just two short weeks. This room has stayed pretty much the same since the big makeover. But, a little switcheroo was needed.
wall art on the cheap
This printer tray filled with seashells always puts a smile on my face. It's the first thing I see when I leave my room to get downstairs. :)

One of my nieces, who is coming from Colombia, is staying here. She enjoys reading, so I shopped the house and my kids' rooms for books she might enjoy.
