Top Ten Posts of 2018

It's just about time to say goodbye to another year and look back at what we've accomplished throughout these past 12 months.

I put together this post at the beginning of December since I knew I was going to be busy these final weeks of the month. If you're one of my regular readers, let me tell you that I haven't been able to work on the final details in the family room. I still need to install the doors on the built-ins; but with six kids (three nieces, nephew, daughter, and son) and lots of activities going on, it's so hard to find the extra time to work on this! The reveal has been postponed to early January. I just need to add the doors, install the knobs and do some staging before taking the final pics.

In the meantime, you can revisit some of the work done throughout this year with the following countdown of the most visited posts of 2018.

Let's start at number 10!

10.  Teen boy bedroom tour

I joined a group of bloggers for a bedroom tour and I went with a tour of my son's room, a favorite of many of you.

You gotta check the post to get lots of bedroom decor inspiration not only from this boy's room but from tons more bedrooms that my blogging friends had beautifully decorated.

9. My sister's modern home in Colombia

Last year I spent a good part of my summer vacation visiting my sister in Colombia. Some of the pictures I took while at her home were put together during this tour.

I love her home's clean lines and how spacious it feels.

8. How to easily organize drawers with wooden dividers

I couldn't believe how long it took me to bring organization to the few drawers I have in my kitchen given that this is such an easy project!

The cost of this project is another reason why you need to do this ASAP.

Making your own wooden dividers means the storage is crafted to your own needs and that those drawers will stay super organized!

7. How to plank a ceiling

One of the biggest projects I tackled this year was my bathroom makeover. A small master bathroom was gutted down and then put back together through a series of many little projects.

Installing a plank ceiling or Shiplap ceiling was the project that got the most views.

I like to add interest to the ceilings in small rooms, it brings the eye all the way up and since they're small rooms, the cost isn't over the roof. :)

6. DIY Plate Rack

This is another of those "why I didn't do it sooner" projects.

Really!

That little space on the side of the fridge was screaming for something. :D

I only had one and a half inches of space there (depth), but it was enough space to build a plate rack that not only stores plates and wooden boards but most importantly, gave a nice look to what was a blank space.

5. Master Bathroom Makeover

The biggest project this year and one that I've been enjoying a lot is my bathroom makeover.

A typical builder's grade bathroom with a plastic bathtub and kitchen cabinet vanity was turned into the space we really needed.

Great lighting, ample storage space, and a walk-in shower are some of the features we like the most.

4. Spring Home Tour

As always, the magic of Pinterest brings one project/post to the top ten list. I think this is it this time.

This picture below from the Spring home tour has been pinned so many times, it brought this post to the top fourth spot.

3. Tools for Dad

This is new this year. I've been working for Home Depot's Prospective program for quite some time, reviewing lots of tools. Once in a while, I compile lists of favorite tools for favorite occasions and well, this list for father's day was well received.

2. Summer Home Tour

This past summer I added lots of color to our home. Maybe it was all the color or the fact that getting together with blogging friends brings lots of traffic to our blogs. Whichever the reason, this home tour series post got to the number two spot on the list.

1. DIY - Basement Shelves

Finally, the number one spot goes to this DIY project that I tackled early this year when tired of the pile of crap my husband had in the basement.

I built these shelves out of 2x4s and OSB boards.

They've been the best decision ever for him to keep all of his stuff organized...

Cables, old CDs, electronics... you name it. He keeps it there and organized!

AND the most important thing, those shelves are easy to build, hold tons of stuff and they're economical to build.

  1. Good evening! !
It is 9:30 PM on 30th Japan time now.
It is the custom of Japan's year end.
In the year end, we say “Yoi otoshi wo” to each other wishing for the coming
    year to be pleasurable.
The New Year season is the most significant season for the Japanese.
All the Christmas décor is switched to the New Year’s in a blink.
Major New Year icons are the pine tree, bamboo, plums and so on. All of them are symbols of good fortune and longevity.
