10 Easy Summer Decorating Ideas

Hi everyone!

I'm so very excited to be joining my friend Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for the annual edition of the  Summer Home Tour series.

I hope you have enjoyed the tours this week. There are still so many beautiful homes in store! You'll find all the links at the end of this post. 30 beautiful homes in total, all dressed in their best summer attire.

If you're joining me via Kristin's beautiful log cabin @ White Arrows Home, welcome! I just love her cabin; it's summer perfection!

OUR SUMMER HOME TOUR

2021 has been a slow year; I decided not to get into big projects or home renovations to take time for myself and work on other areas concerning the blog. Given that we're also having (and continuing to have) plenty of visitors this summer, my décor had to be extremely simple and effortless.

Let me take you around our home in our family room. I also want to share my ten simple summer decorating ideas that I use every year.

1. CLEAN AND DECLUTTER

The weather outside might be frightful. ðŸ˜ŠðŸ”¥ But, coming inside a clean and spacious home can give you the feeling of cool freshness.

The heavy blankets were put away, and the coffee & side tables were also updated with lighter décor pieces.

2. SWITCH PILLOW COVERS, THROW BLANKETS, ETC.

One of the easiest ways to update a room for the new season is by switching the pillow covers. A fun print, lighter fabrics, and intense colors convey that the summer season is here, and it is very welcomed.

I also love to switch the throw blankets and sometimes even the rugs.

3. BRING IN A NEW PLANT - BIG OR SMALL

It's summer; let's bring the outdoors in! I'm enamored with my Monstera Deliciosa. It's been a year since I got it, and she looks better and better every day. Too big for your space? How about a succulent?

4. ADD A FUN PATTERN

Peel & stick wallpaper is a fun way to update furniture or a small wall section. There are so many designs to choose from, and I like that they can be removed anytime.

That small section of wallpaper I installed behind the T.V. completely changed the room's mood.

Let's head over to the contiguous room, the kitchen.

I love that this room is always bright, especially when the sun hits that window in the mornings. This picture was taken in the afternoon when the light was hitting the kitchen island.

5. FLOWERS FROM THE GARDEN MAKE PRETTY BOUQUETS

Flowers put a happy mood in any room. The satisfaction is even greater if those flowers or greens are from your garden. Hey, you didn't have to pay a penny; they're adorable!

6. USE PAINT FOR A LITTLE FURNITURE OR ROOM UPDATE

Why, yes. This island got a new paint update. I bought that blue paint for another project last year, which didn't happen. Out of the blue, last week [pun intended], I brought it up from the basement and used it here on the island. A good pop of color compared to the previous gray.

The dark color is a great background that highlights whatever is stored on those shelves.

Now, you can update a simple chair or small table with paint. That will surely give your room a brand-new look.

7. USE NATURAL FIBERS

Our home office, the previous dining room, is packed with wooden surfaces and natural materials that give it a warm yet cooling vibe.

8. USE THRIFTY FINDS AS DECOR PIECES

An unexpected thrifty find can be the wonderful conversation-started piece you need in a room. I'm always looking for chunky pots, candlesticks, lanterns, old books, art, etc.

But overall, things have stayed the same in this room.

9. DECORATE WITH TROPICAL LEAF PRINTS

The girl's room was updated by changing the headboard's fabric. It used to be white, but the new grid pattern gives more definition to the entire area.

The leaf gallery is a super easy idea to bring a good punch of summer to a room. You can get the leaf prints right HERE. Print them in the comforts of your own home, set them in the frames, and ha instant art!

Last year we installed a ceiling fan in this room and the boy's room. They make a massive difference since those two rooms get hit with lots of sun all afternoon.

10. FRESHEN UP YOUR BEDROOMS

Yes. Your bedrooms also need fresh fabrics and linens.

And overall, you can take a similar approach to what you do to the main areas of your home!
