Teen Boy Room Before and After with a Project You Haven't Seen Before

I hope you had a great weekend!

Mine was good, I spent it in the garage where I have a huge mess. As they say, it gets worse before it gets better, and I'm right there, in the worse, though with some progress. ;)

Today's post of my son's room before and after the makeover is an idea I totally borrowed from Shelley, when a couple of weeks ago I saw the before and after of her kitchen from every angle. <3 it!

So, let's get started while standing at the door...
BEFORE

The walls were still sporting the train lines painted oh, so long ago. The curtain kept on covering the a/c vent on the floor, something that Mr. RLC didn't like. But, the worst part, in my opinion, was all on my side, I kept on using his room to hide furniture I didn't like in other parts of the house ---> buffet, floral chair, nightstand... :s
AFTER

Adding window trim all the way to the ceiling gave the room the same effect as the long drapes. The window treatment got simpler, more appropriate for a teen boy. No big pieces of furniture, a small step stool it's all that's needed now.
BEFORE

The bed was one of the elements he really disliked about his previous room. A mattress atop a frame with a headboard made out of a crib. Only one nightstand, and not enough storage space for his stuff. :(

AFTER

Nowadays, the bed is for sure his favorite part in this room. It's comfy and warm and just the way he wanted it. The lonely nightstand was replaced with a full built-in around the bed. His complaint now:
What to store in so many drawers! :)

BEFORE
The closet was an area he hardly used before, he couldn't reach the shelf or hang his clothes on the rod. Most of the time the door was closed.

AFTER

By getting rid of the door and the small wall around it, I had the space to accommodate a shoe tower. The new vintage sliding door doesn't take up space at all, and it's a great feature of the room.

BEFORE

The lack of storage in his closet was the main problem.

AFTER

Drawers, shelves, double rods, and even inside the wall small storage bins were added.

BEFORE

Looking from the closet all the way to the opposite wall where a nightstand was missing... Just sad.
The buffet/dresser was the one holding his clothes at that time... And he hated it!

AFTER

Instead of a nightstand, a desk was used on this side of his bed. It was his first request for what he wanted in his room. New -plywood- floors replaced the dirty carpet.

BEFORE

Standing close to the window and looking to the other side of the room where the entrance door is located. You can see the only source of light he used... a little lamp. :(  On the wall, a Minecraft poster that he didn't like anymore because he's into something new.

AFTER

No darkness anymore! A ceiling light, two sconces on each side of the built-ins, two can lights looking down to his bed, picture frame lights on the bookcases and even a pendant light in the closet make this room a good lid space.

As for that wall area close to the door that I strategically cropped off this last picture... I created the best solution ever to keep him from throwing stuff on the floor.

Really!
It has worked wonders. :)

I'm sharing this project today over at Lil'Luna right HERE. And let me tell you, it's my favorite project because is the one that has kept his room organized!

If you have kids that love to throw clothes, bags, or the towel they just used, to the floor... You're going to LOVE this project.

See you there!

    1. ehehe that sounds funny, but that's the face I see when he is in his room, he keeps on talking about what lights he uses for reading or doing homework... Another funny thing happened when the following day after the wall organizer was installed, I entered his room and found every piece of the clothing he was wearing the day before on each of the hooks! One sock here, the other there, the t-shirt on the other and so on... I couldn't help but laugh at such scene! :) Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words Julie!

    1. Thanks Sandi! I know what you mean, that's something I like so much about before and afters, one can see exactly all that was changed. I'm having closet envy too, I think is time to work on my own closet. :)

  10. Thank you for the sweet comment on my daughter's teen shed. I love your son's teen room! It's fantastic! I really love the closet. We did something similar with my dd's closet a couple of years ago, and it made a huge difference for such a tiny space. When you have such a small closet, builtins really maximize. xoxo Su
