A Charming Parisian Bedroom

A cozy Paris bedroom in pink, white, black and gold

It's reveal day for this Parisian bedroom makeover that belongs to Diana, a sweet young lady, one of my daughter's friends. I have to send a big thank you to her, for trusting me and allowing me to go in and move things around and have fun decorating her bedroom.

Before I move onto the pretty pictures I need to show you the starting point. Diana had recently moved into her new apartment and was still undecided on how to decorate her room. She has a good size room with high ceilings (9-ft), a big window that lets in lots of light, a walk-in closet, and bathroom on the opposite side.

Diana was sure about one design element, she wanted to turn this room into a charming Parisian bedroom where she could retreat to at the end of a busy day. She wanted a glam bedroom with lots of pink, gold and black accents.

After touring the room and taking some pictures, these four areas in the room had to be addressed:

1. The bed, usually the focal point in a bedroom and the wall behind it.
2. The window and that wall surrounding it.
3. The desk and T.V. areas
4. The mirror on a small wall in between the doors to the closet and bath.

I went back home to organize my decorating plan and to search Marketplace, Craiglist and a few local thrift stores trying to find all the elements that were needed in this room at a great price.

The room needed nightstands, light fixtures, wall art, curtains, etc.

Once I got all I needed, I came back to give this room the glamour and pizzazz my young client wanted.

My very first task was to climb onto that ladder and try to remove the ceiling fan light cover. I wanted to exchange it for a drum shade. However, after inspection I noticed two bulbs and how intricate it was installed, so I dropped that idea. I didn't want my client having trouble installing it back in the future when she has to return the apartment. Remember, this is a renter's apartment.

Well, it's reveal time! You can watch this video or continue reading below.

OK, let's move onto the pretty pictures!

This is the view standing at the entrance door.

1. THE FOCAL POINT

The gallery wall not only sets the mood with those pretty and romantic prints, but it also fills that enormous wall with lots of character with the asymmetrical gallery/black frames.

I shared all the details about how you can also install these type of  Ribba frames without using nails or screws on the wall right HERE.  Yes, it's renter's friendly!

The bed got a few extra pillows, white linens which are a staple in most of my rooms, and I also added a skirt to the bed. The duvet cover and comforter that my client owned couldn't work any better.

2. THE WINDOW

I can't get enough of this view! What a big difference a simple set of curtains imparted to the overall feel of this room.
Pink bedding and curtains

This set of soft blush pink blackout curtains provide warmth, height, privacy, and they darken the room when needed.
3. THE DESK & T.V. AREA

That back wall got the simplest treatment. Irregular dot wall decals were the understated charm this wall needed, in order to balance out what's going on the other side of the room.
I exchanged the tall boy chest for a smaller bookcase that I had in storage in my basement. The dark color was a better fit in the room from the light stain the former chest had. I also like the extra storage and the fact that the T.V. is at a better viewing height.

The desk was taken out of the corner and placed right in front of the window. Don't you like it better here?

Now, I replaced the folding chair that was previously in the room, for this pretty chair that I found at a local thrift store. In fact, I scored two of this Duncan Phyfe chairs, for only five dollars. One of the chairs was barely put together. This one was in better shape, but I gave it a big amount of TLC before bringing it to this room.

I sanded off the glossy stain it sported, and instead it received a fresh walnut finish.  The pretty details were highlighted in gold, and the seat cushion was reupholstered. You can check all the details about this chair makeover right HERE.

4. THE MIRROR

No more frameless mirrors in this charming bedroom! This big, antique mirror was another piece I dug out of my basement. It sported a white frame that didn't do any justice to the ornate details this mirror possess.

I used a simple painting technique to bring it back to life and I adore the way it turned out. Let's keep this type of ornate mirrors GOLD!

You can find all the details on how you can paint a mirror frame gold, right HERE.

The pretty Fleur-de-Lis wall hook was a happy Etsy find.

The nightstands were a Craiglist find and my client's treasures and/or belongings were the perfect accent to decorate this Parisian bedroom makeover.

    1. Thanks Rebecca!! Yes, the silver tray was a vintage find. My son was surprised to see that quick polishing transformation. From dull and tarnished to bright and shiny in less than a minute! :) The books were also thrifty finds.
