Red and White Christmas Tree

family room decorated for Christmas - chimney with Advent calendar above it

One of my favorite Christmas memories while growing up in Colombia was staring at our little tinsel tree.

Given that we were a large family, there was never a big budget for Christmas decor.
So, each year, no matter what, the little tinsel tree was the first, and many times the only, piece of Christmas decor put on display once December arrived.

I loved to help my mother set the glass ornaments on the tree.  Year after year, we hung the same multi-color, glass ornaments...
The same shiny star at the top.
The same teardrop and round ornaments.
And my favorite, the same Santa Claus with its long, white beard.

The only thing that changed was their placement within the tree, and the fact that as the years passed many of the ornaments ended up cracked. Anyways, we continued using them by only displaying the good side. :)

Ahhh, those memories...  Priceless, right.

Well, nowadays I'm beyond grateful that I can change the ornaments, the theme, and even the tree each Christmas.  Though, it's a bit more problematic when you have to take so many considerations, not even mentioning the storage.

So, if you also like to give your Christmas tree a new look each year, you're at the right place!

Today, I'm super excited to join Diane of An Extraordinary Day and Mary Beth of Cupcakes and Crinoline for an Extraordinary Christmas Tree Blog Hop.

Back in October we were busy bees crafting handmade Christmas ornaments for our Christmas trees.
Well, some of us got back together to show you those ornaments on our trees.

My Christmas theme this year is red and white with some added wooden tones.

On the side of the tree I always like to highlight a little friend or toy. That's one of my traditions since my kids were little. This year Maia Mouse is in charge. ;)

I filled my flocked Christmas tree with a mix of handmade and store bought ornaments.

Back in October I created a bunch of this wooden tags ornaments. This, the rustic set, was the one that worked perfectly with the theme.

The tags were also a good accent to the Christmas presents.

I used to set my Christmas tree in the living room, but last year I decided to bring it here, to the family room, close to the fireplace, and for now on it's staying right here!

Besides the kitchen, the family room is where we love to hang out.  I don't know why it took me so long to change its placement. We love it here so much!

It helps frame the mantel so well. Maybe you don't know it, but I'm crazy changing the look of this mantel.
Yep. That's one of the things I'm always decorating. I like to change my mantel display with the seasons.

This time, a cute Advent calendar and plaid stockings did the trick.

On the chair, this cute pillowcase, my black Friday score at Pottery Barn. I love its name "All the way home"...

That's the way I feel when decorating my Christmas tree every year, it's like taking a ride all the way home!  :)
