Tool Gift Guide: 10 Awesome Tools Under $40

This post is sponsored by The Home Depot.
Ryobi, Milwaukee, DeWalt, Husky, Dremel, Bosch tools under $40 for your holiday gifts

Hey there,

As many of you know, I'm part of the ProSpective Tool Review program for Home Depot, which means I get to try lots of new tools and well, talk about them! :)

Thanks to the ProSpective program, this year I've been working with plenty of new tools, putting them to the test and I have to say, they are all really good tools from outstanding manufacturers, but there were some of those tools that were just AWESOME and that's why I'm doing this post and one more, next week.
The tools I'm highlighting today are my favorite under the $40 price range and I think they make perfect gifts for the DIY'er in your life or hey, maybe even for yourself!

I was happily surprised at these prices for the quality of these tools. So, let's check them out!

I love this tool! You only need to press one button to get an accurate measurement, with a distance range of 65 ft. and accurate up to 1/8".
It is very small and fits comfortably in the hand or in your pocket.
Quick and easy to use, compact, and most importantly... Accurate!
My go-to tool when installing crown molding. ;)

a multi tool screwdriver with lots of good qualities

A tool with tons of versatility! Good when you need Phillips and flat-headed, small and large, as well as nut drivers and my beloved square drive bits. You can also use it for wire bending and wire stripping.

3. DEWALT Max Fit Screwdriving Set (30-Piece) - $9.97
Dewalt

One of the must-have tools in the shop. I really like the magnetic nut drivers in this set which means they don't fall! And the bits are strong and sturdy.

4. DIABLO Bi-Metal and Carbide Hole Saw Set (9-piece) - $39.88

Diablo hole saw tool

This kit features five hole-saw cups (bi-metal and carbide tipped) and Diablo's four-piece SnapLock PLUS mandrel system for quick and easy hole-saw cup changes.

I love to use this set for all those decorative projects I get myself into. But, this is a tool you need in your arsenal! You never know when you need to cut a hole thru wood, plastic, aluminum, metal, or stainless steel. Good to have it!

Self-leveling cross-line laser level

The fact that it's self-level is priceless and at the same time incredible! That happens because it features a smart pendulum system that self-levels and indicates out-of-level conditions.

You can choose between cross-line, horizontal or vertical lines by just pressing a button.
And I also like that you can clamp it to any surface for quick and easy setup.

6. RYOBI 18-Volt High Power Volume Inflator - $19.97

Power volume inflator

When you hear inflator, you immediately think of summer toys or mattress inflators, but this one is way more than that!

Yes, it can inflate all those Summer toys and mattresses in a matter of seconds thanks to its high volume low pressure inflation, AND deflation mechanism.

You can use it just about anywhere you go, given that is powered by any Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ battery.
Now, this tool is not only good for inflation and deflation, but I also use it all the time to keep my workbench sawdust free and my son loves to use it when quickly setting up the firepit with a good fire.

7.  DIABLO SandNet sanding discs (10-Pack) - $14.97

DIABLO Tools sandnet sanding discs

Ha, I think no one likes the boring job of sanding. And that's one of the reasons why I love these sanding discs so much! They make that boring job way less daunting.

These Diablo SandNet sanding discs last ten times longer than standard sanding discs.
They don't get clogged as regular sanding discs thanks to the clog-reducing net design.

I've been using them for all of my projects and all I have to say is why I didn't hear about them sooner! They're great.

8. HUSKY Diamond Tip Magnetic Screwdriver Set (6-Piece) - $14.97
magnetic screwdriver

I keep this set inside my home. It's the one I'm always using when I need a screwdriver for everyday use, and many times when I'm in the garage, working on a project, I have to go and grab one of these trusty screwdrivers.

Their magnetized tip is what I like the most about them, but I also love how well they fit in my hand.

9. HUSKY ¼ in. Drive Gimbal and Universal Socket Set (25-Piece) - $19.97
socket set

The Husky Gimbal Ratchet is not just your ordinary palm ratchet; its innovative design provides multi-directional rotation for easier access in hard-to-reach areas.

A wonderful set to have around the house and garage. It consists of a ¼" drive Gimbal ratchet, a 3" extension, 6 SAE sockets from 3/16" through ½", 6 metric sockets from 5 through 10 mm, a square 2 hex adapter, and 10 driver bits for various screws.

10. DREMEL Pet Nail Grooming Cordless Rotary Tool with 7 Attachments - $29.99
Dremel pets

Last but not least, a wonderful tool for the pet lover in your life, and a tool your furry friends will love!

The rotary action of the tool comfortably trims your pet's nails.

I don't have pets, I gave this tool to my SIL and here, her husband is trimming their sweet Sophy's nails.

Their best tips:
Gently introduce your pet to the noise.
Give your dog a treat after each nail. ;)

  1. What sander would you recommend? I bought a Dewalt I love it but it’s a Square dander not round, and Home Depot seems to have more sandpaper for the round then the square .

    1. Hi Laura, DeWalt also carries a 5" corded orbital sander, I have one of those and love it! I also like the RYOBI 5" cordless random orbital sander, I love that it works with the ONE+ batteries, no cables to deal with, but you need to have at least two batteries, so when you're done with one you can continue working with the other.
