Burlap Ribbon Peeps Baskets

Burlap ribbon used to create peeps baskets

Today I'm back with a super cute Easter project. I love those soft colors that come with the beginning of Spring or Easter and colorful peeps are perfect, they fill the bill and brighten up any day!

You can give them as little gifts or place them on your Easter table as decor and a little something for your guests to take home. ;)

Once you gather all your supplies you can make a bunch in no time. Ready to make your own?

burlap baskets made out of ribbon for Easter

The idea of the baskets began when I found the beautiful burlap ribbon on the clearance section at Target. Once I got home I looked for things to create the handles and basket's base, brown paper twist was the perfect option for the handles and decorated paper was used for the base.

The materials you'll need for one basket:

  • One piece, 7½" in length of burlap ribbon (the one I used had a width of 5")
  • 12" paper twist
  • 2" decorative paper circles (the tougher the paper the better)
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun

Grab the 12" section of paper twist and untwist it. Cut it lengthwise to create three pieces and twist each piece once again.

Hot glue both ends of each paper twist to the bottom side of the paper circles, opposite sides.

Fold the ribbon in half, lengthwise. Unfold it and cut away two thirds of one of those halves.

The small part past the crease is going to be glued to the paper base. With the scissors make some cuts all along that small part without cutting past the center crease or fold. The fold is your guide to glue the ribbon to the paper base. Glue the ribbon all around the base.

Once done with the base you can go ahead and close the front of the basket with another line of glue and set the handles straight by gluing them to the inside of the basket.
I went ahead and use another paper circle (thin paper), to make the outside base look better.

You can add more embellishments if you want. I only added a little ribbon to those handles.
