DIY - Snowflake Christmas Ornament

Christmas decor

wood burning ornaments, snowflakes,

Hi friends,

Once again this year I'm joining a group of bloggers in what we call The 31 Days of Handmade Christmas Ornaments - A full month dedicated to Christmas crafting in hopes of giving you lots of ideas for your holiday decor.

At the end of this post you'll find the links to all the other 11 ornaments that have already been featured, and you can also find the links to the others ornaments still to come, until the end of the month.

Big thanks to An Extraordinary Day, Cupcakes and Crinoline, Yesterday on Tuesday, and Silly Pearl for all their work at putting together this event.

My ornament, as many of my projects is a repurposed one. Two years ago I scored a bunch of free wooden poles at my local Flea Market. After moving them to a new spot during the big garage cleaning this past Spring, the idea of using the fluted pole as little snowflakes appeared.

I guess you can use a hand saw, but that would be intense work (totally not my thing). I decided to use my Rockwell - BladeRunner saw, and it worked like a charm at cutting all those little flakes. :)

Ryobi drill to open holes onto snowflakes wooden ornaments.

I'm telling you, I got lots of them, more than 100! And they all needed the little hole to pass the ribbon from where to hang. The only problem was, I got too excited with my awesome drill, and instead of drilling only one little hole, I made five, six, and even eight holes on some of the flakes.
Don't worry, that goes FAST. ;)

Then, it was time to play with the wood burning tool. At first, I made a rough draft with a pencil, but after the tenth design, I was a pro! Well, almost.

This is one of those tasks you want to complete while watching one of your favorite TV series, take a break until the next episode and continue.  I haven't finished all of them, and no, I don't watch much TV, no TV series for me, I guess I'm going debate after debate until election day! :D

But, I love what I've done so far! I'm thinking of giving them as little sets to family and friends.

Of course, I'm going to keep some of them to decorate my Christmas tree...

And maybe some more to use as present tags. Ha, I just thought of adding names to some of those. Talk about personalization. ;)

  1. Cute idea!
I didn't realize at first that they were so small, you could hang those anywhere (furniture knobs, lamp switches, etc.)

  3. I always love your Christmas ornaments...I am so fortunate that my Mom started a tradition of giving my kids collectable ornaments every year...thye easily fill a 10' tree! But SOMEDAY I will have to turn them over to their rightful owners and I may have to start making some to fill the tree. Either that, or I will put up a little table top tree, put a bow on the top, and go to Colorado for the holiday...lol! Now there is a plan!

    1. Hey Beck, I think that's what Christmas is all about. All those memories and traditions we create, passing them generation after generation. That last idea is gonna be my favorite tradition a couple years down the road. :D Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words!
