Peak Bloom For The Cherry Blossoms

Tidal Basin - Jefferson Memorial

The Cherry Blossoms Festival in Washington DC is always a great sight to see every year!

Although, it is a bit of an inconvenience as a local as parking is a nightmare and with the blossoms in bloom folks from all over come to see them. To enjoy the blossoms families in neighboring Maryland and Virginia either take a day trip on Metro or enjoy other cherry blossom trees in closer, car-friendly areas.

This is why it came as a shock when at almost 4 o'clock on a Monday afternoon I got this phone message...

Hey Mom, today is peak bloom for the Cherry Blossoms, do you want to go with me for a quick look?

It was my daughter who had been working all day long upstairs in her bedroom.

I had been sitting at the computer for the past two hours too.

My first thought was that it was already too late.

But then, I looked outside and knew that we'd had a gorgeous day and we'd been all day inside the house working like little bees.

My reply...

Sure, let's GO!!

We had a surprisingly smooth trip, as we were going against the flow. Most people were heading out of DC while we were coming in!

We got another lucky break with parking as my daughter found LEGAL street parking just a few blocks from the Tidal Basin.

As per my daughter's request, we brought our Louie with us.

Ha, big mistake.

He kept on barking at every. single. dog. he encountered. ðŸ™„

However, we didn't let him ruin our evening!

Everyone at the basin was having a blast and many were taking advantage of the golden hour light (look at that perfection 😉)

Families were having picnics and taking their dogs for a stroll.

Once we reached the Jefferson Memorial the sun had set and we started our come back to the car after an eventful evening. Well, besides Louie.

I'm glad we took the leap and went to see the blossoms as the weather was gorgeous.

There was a crowd but it wasn't as large as previous years (or if we would have gone on the weekend).

While walking back to the car, we captured these...

This will be an adventure my daughter and I will cherish for years to come.

Oh, I have to take a DC night tour, as you can see, it's different but equally beautiful!

I hope you've enjoyed this little taste of DC!

  1. Gorgeous! We've hit peak bloom a couple times in DC and managed to get lucky with less crowds and good parking. But we've also had miserable traffic times too. Good call by your daughter! Your photos are stunning. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Rita! It's been the same way for us here. There'd been times when it's been almost impossible to walk thanks to the crowds. Nonetheless, the gorgeous blossoms are totally worth the effort. Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words.

    1. Shelley, you need to plan a trip here to the area during Spring. It's beautiful and there are lots of activities for the entire family.

  3. Love the pictures! My hubby just asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday, and I said that I wanted to go see the cherry blossoms in DC! Unfortunately, it is Thursday, and they are calling for rain! I have never seen them, so we are going to attempt it, and if the weather doesn't cooperate, we will just go to a museum and have a nice dinner at The Chophouse!

    1. Oh yeah, all this week is going to be raining, especially Thursday.😒 However, that sounds like an awesome plan as there are plenty of museums that you can enjoy if the rain is too heavy.
Wishing you a Happy Birthday! And hey, I've heard good things about The Chophouse, I've never been there. Gotta plan another trip soon. :)
