Lamp Shade Makeover

give new life to a lamp shade

Hi friends,

How was your weekend? I hope you've had a good one. Mine was great.

Even though we had more rain, I managed to work a bit in the garden, some planting and the starting of a new garden bed.

Today's project is an upcycled. This is one more of those items exhumed from the garage during my latest clean up. Yep, I'm on a roll. :)

The lamp bases that came with these shades were used on this project here. This pair was in the garage collecting dust and taking up space for years.

My next step was to remove the plastic (you heard it right, plastic) material covering them, in order to see what was the better option for these frames.

A coat of paint, and they already looked good.

I decided to go the easy way to cover them up. Strips of fabric, tulle, and even pieces of ribbon were used.

Then, it was just a matter of tying them to the top and bottom of the shades.

Continuing to fill them 'til they were full.
-Some of the strips of fabric were hot glued on the lower part. Trying to speed up the filling process. ;)

I'm loving all those striking blue and green tones, perfect for a girl's bedroom or a Spring room.
The hunt is now on for new bases. :)

I think this is a project anyone can do. I recommend the strips of fabric rather than ribbon, they're more economical and the ends experience less fraying.

Have you ever recovered a lamp shade without the previous shade? Me neither. That's why I went this way! :)
