Memo Board Revamped

The first item to be changed in the Laundry Room was the Memo Board.

It's a corkboard I bought at Costco a long time ago that had served us well, but it was SO plain and straightforward that I didn't want to keep it any longer, and to make matters worse, it was too small for that wall.
Well, it was time to do something. Since I don't like to get rid of things that still work, I decided to make it bigger and give it a new life.

Here is my new Memo Board:

This is how it looked before:

I began creating the mirror frames. These two mirrors would go at the top and bottom of the memo board.
The dimensions I worked with are as follows:

The wood I used

Using a miter saw, all the wooden pieces were cut according to the dimensions in the picture above and assembled with a nail gun and 1-inch brad nails.

The frame assembly started with the small inside squares.
two nails at each end

Frames ready to be painted.
and here, measuring the mirror

All spray-painted:

A pretty fabric was glued to the corkboard using spray adhesive:

Almost done, waiting for the mirror to be cut.

Checking how it looked without the mirror!

I used an old, cheap door mirror I had and cut it in half.

Guess who volunteered to cut it? Yes, Dear Mr. RLC.

First time cutting glass, or a mirror for that matter. Tons of practice on a spare piece of glass.

The result: perfection.

I placed each piece of mirror behind the frames, securing them in place with the same cardboard (cut in half) that the original mirror had. Stapling it to the new wood frames.

The two long sides of the Memo board were reinstalled, and the board was secured to the wall with screws. The mirrors (top and bottom) were hung to the wall really close to the Memo board to make it look like one whole piece.

This is the hardware I used for the mirrors.

Here again:

I'm pleased with the final board.

The mirrors are my favorite part; they bounce light coming from those windows on the other side, making this little room a bit brighter.
