Going Away Party Ideas

A week ago, my sister-in-law threw a Going Away Party to my niece. I might say it's a bittersweet moment because on the one hand, we're extremely excited and proud for all what this girl has accomplished so far in her life. On the other hand, it's a bit scary, because it's the first time she's going to live far away from home.

She's moving away from here, Maryland, to an apartment in California with a brand new job. A huge milestone in her life.

The party was kind of a
last minute decision, and of course I was so glad to lend a helping hand with the decor and some of the food.

Below, you'll find images of some of the things that worked for us, and some other ideas I gathered from around the web.

Let's start with the party invitations, we didn't have time to send these, but you can find plenty of wording ideas right here:

Use Chalkboards to write those special messages.

How Lucky Am I to Have
Something that Makes
Saying Goodbye So Hard
                                            Winnie the Pooh

We'll Go Nuts Without You!

Decorate with Maps.

Same way with Globes.
As a table centerpiece...

It's a Going Away Party... You need Suitcases! :)

Or...  to hold food.

One of my all-time favorite things is using inexpensive banners ...
Adios Bitches

Use paper in your colors of choice for decor.
Paper table runner

Ask guests to write something about the guest of honor.

Home is where the Heart is

Say it with food.

Use balloons... Hot Air balloons will bring the traveling message.

But, regular balloons are a sure hit in any party!

Most importantly, have lots of fun and let that special person(s) in your life know, that no matter where in the world they might be, you love them and care for them.

  1. It was a great party. Loved the decorations and the ways all the food was displayed. Even made store bought cupcakes look fantastic. Can't wait for the next one. You and Pilar are so talented. Love your parties.

    1. Awww Thanks so much Carol. It was so nice to see you again. We have to meet more frequently!

  2. As a history buff, I love the globe decor (& as a way to leave messages!) A dear friend of mine did a globe as her guest book at her wedding and I thought that was great as well!
