10 Small Changes to Create a Signature Kitchen

Going through all the decisions to renovate my kitchen while doing it all on my own has thought me a lot. I love how my kitchen turned out, but of course there are still small changes I want to add--I guess the decorative part never ends. Today I want to share with you some tips that will help you create a kitchen you will love for years to come but most importantly on a budget than almost anyone can afford! A great way to compile the ideas you might have, is by creating an inspiration board. Many of the ideas I used, as well as the changes I want to add in the future are included in the following inspiration board.
paint, changing lights, adding storage, changing faucets and hardware to create a stunning kitchen

These are better explained with the following 10 key points to create your signature kitchen on a budget:

1. Paint

Nothing creates more drama in such an economical way than paint! Find at least a three color palette and work with those colors.

Paint the cabinets or at least the kitchen island to get a good feel on the color you choose.

2. Change Cabinet Hardware and lighting fixtures

A simple change that requires little work.

3. Create Charming Storage Solutions

Old jars are a perfect storage solution in your kitchen, creating a striking display like the one below is what brings your kitchen to the next level.

4. Update Appliances

Get rid of dated, inefficient appliances. Upgrading to LG appliances in my own kitchen is one of the best decisions I've made for my kitchen! Have you seen the new LG Studio Collection? LG Studio’s bold, sophisticated look complements anyone's personal style!  From built-in mega-capacity refrigerator-freezers to cooking appliances and dishwashers, LG Studio’s signature style includes premium stainless steel, distinctive door handles and knobs, LCD touch screen control panels, as well as radiant interior LED lighting – all helping to achieve a refined, sophisticated look. So gorgeous! Learn more about the LG Studio Collection here.

5. Install a Backsplash

This is a weekend project that will bring a more professional look to your kitchen, the possibilities are endless, but I love the price and timeless look of subway tile.

6. Take Advantage of Every Little Space your Kitchen has

Call it storage, wall art, organization, take advantage of every little nook and cranny. The dish rack in the picture below creates a great focal point.

7. Furniture pieces don't have to be new

Old pieces can be brought back to life or they can warm up your space by leaving them intact showing their age.

8. Decorate with Objects that Serve Multiple Purposes

Your kids will be more than happy to bring their sodas and juices to the backyard using the handy bottle carrier you use as decor.

9. Use Window Treatments to Give your Kitchen a Fresh Start

One of my favorite ways to bring the colors of the season into my kitchen is by updating the window shade.

10. Bring fun into your kitchen with an old sign

Give your kitchen a fun spin with a sign. Create your own letters of phrases that best suit your interests.

  1. I love your ideas and your kitchen! My kitchen is finished, but there are things I would love to do one day too. Pendant lights and a vent hood like yours are at the top of the list!

We're having to fix up our kitchen on less than any budget, mostly paint and using some things I've had. Since we painted our l/r light gray the kitchen cabinets will be light gray but the doors will be shade darker. We have a single wide mfg home, the kitchen is right next to l/r and one wall is in common thru l/r, kitchen and mudroom. The light gray has shown to be such a clean serene color we're really enjoying how it looks. My other colors in l/r are little bit of coral with shades of aqua on home made art and other features. Kitchen appliances are white so no replacing any of them. Ourfrig is a side by side about 4 yrs.old, stove replaced shortly after we bought house and will work on doing something with ugly dishwasher. The biggest problem is our counter tops, want to use laminate flooring. A lot of our counter top has lifted and parts are broken. Home is 16 yrs .old so fixing up what we can afford on SS. Not easy but we keep at it little by little. Have some laminate flooring out in shed, thought we could stain it color we want to go in kitchen. That or use boards for counter top. Your post has been inspiring.
Have hard time getting hubs to see my vision, says anything I propose can't be done before he even will try it, gets pretty frustrating so I just go ahead on my own doing what I can, hope to change his mind. grrrrr.
