The year's last flea market was a bust. A biting wind whipped through the nearly deserted rows of vendors, and the few shoppers who braved the cold looked as ready to leave as we were. We were almost to the parking lot, resigned to a day of coming home empty-handed, when I spotted it: a small, demilune table tucked away in a corner.
I was immediately captivated by its elegant demilune shape and delicate legs—it had so much potential! But as soon as I picked it up, my heart sank. The little table wobbled like a rocking chair, its joints loose and its finish chipped. It was a sorry sight, but I couldn't leave it behind. I knew with a little TLC, this piece could be more than just a flea market find; it could be a stunning statement piece.
If you've ever found a wobbly treasure at a flea market or thrift store and wondered if it's salvageable, you're in the right place.
Follow along as I show you how to take a forgotten piece of furniture and give it a complete DIY makeover, transforming this wobbly demilune table into a beautiful and functional addition to my home.
My face must have said it all because the seller immediately offered it to me for only two dollars. I couldn't resist the challenge, so I brought it home to fix up.
This little table ended up hanging on a garage wall, forgotten in the chaos, until I rediscovered it while organizing. Now, it's finally time to give this vintage beauty a second chance.
I'll walk you through how I took this broken, two-dollar find and transformed it into a stunning piece of furniture. You'll learn the steps for how to refinish a demilune table, including how to fix wobbly table legs and give it a fresh new look. Get ready to turn your own flea market find into a functional and stylish piece!
The feet had been attached with nails, and all of them were loose. There was no alternative but to disassemble the entire table.
It was by far the easiest disassembly job I've ever done. The legs were loose, too.
Notice the amount of glue stuck on those joints. The first task after disassembling the table is to remove all the dried glue.
You can use regular sandpaper or a sanding sponge. I took the easy route, using my Dremel with the small sanding band attachment, which allowed me to finish this job in just a few minutes.
Once all the dried glue was removed and the surfaces were sanded smooth and thoroughly cleaned, the feet were reattached. This time around, I used screws instead of nails, after applying a generous amount of wood glue.
The legs were also glued on.
Extra sanding for getting an extra soft surface.
After waiting 24 hours for the glue to dry, the table was painted with ASCP - Florence. This shade of paint sometimes looks green, other times blue; it all depends on the light.
I gave it a light distressing before sealing it with clear wax.
Then, it was time to play. :)
I went for a shabby chic look.
Let's pretend she's sitting by the side of the bed of this quaint cottage...
Beautiful roses add to its charm.
Oh well, I'm loving it!
Have a beautiful day!
