I used painter's tape alongside the frame. I didn't cover the center of the mirror as I was going to apply the paint with a brush.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"color: #e06666;\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003E2. SAND THE FRAME\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003EI skipped this step because I used chalk paint, which adheres to any type of finish. If you use acrylic paint, it's better if you lightly sand the surface, getting rid of any glossy finish on the frame. That sanding or making the surface a bit rough will improve the bonding of the new coat of paint.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"color: #e06666;\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003E3. GIVE THE FRAME A COAT OF BLACK PAINT\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003EAs you can see, the paint I used is not exactly black. It was the darkest matte paint I could find when I decided to paint this mirror. According to their manufacturer \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.amaco.com\/t\/mixed-media\/metallic-finishes\/rub-n-buff\" target=\"_blank\"\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"color: #e06666;\"\u003EAmaco\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, Rub'n Buff is \"formulated from Carnauba waxes, fine metallic powders, and select pigments for a finish no paint can duplicate\".\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003EWhen applying it, yes, it felt like I was applying wax with excellent coverage.
