Bathroom Renovation: The Vanity Area

 Hey guys,

I'm back again, trying to speed up this bathroom reno. It's almost done, kind of 95% done, but I've been waaay behind on organizing, editing the pictures, and of course, writing the posts. I don't even know where the videos I was planning on posting to Instagram are. Lost in the void :/

Anyway, earlier this week I shared this little space that I'm loving right now. That's the area right in front of this vanity (picture below).  Lots of storage was created from the attic and transformed the empty wall into these cute little cubbies that are going to hold lots of bath necessities. You can check that post right HERE.

Now,  before I start talking about my new vanity, I have to show you what I used to live with.
😫

Two boring cabinets with a cultured marble top. That was all the storage space I had. No drawers, no divisions, it always looked messy!

Well, after the demo. This is what we got:
A pipe sticking out of the floor had to go below level before the floor was installed.

These arrows in the picture below show all the work done on that wall:

  • An electric line was brought back here for an outlet inside a vanity drawer.
  • The pipes for sink #2 had to be moved a little further to the right.
  • The outlet was brought down the wall.
  • The toilet valve was moved a bit higher.

Look at that poor wall when everything was set and done!

Well, the good thing was, the space was ready for the vanity. :)
If you've been following this renovation, you might remember that the vanity was the first item I bought one day while shopping at Costco.
It was there in the garage, patiently awaiting this moment. But, my oh my! That thing was heavy. ðŸ˜²
It took four strong men (two neighbors, my BIL, and my husband lazily guiding them!) bringing it up the steps and into my room. Oh, and you got to see my bedroom, it's still a disaster zone. :(

I was and I still am so excited about all these drawers and storage! It came with these silver pulls that I changed.

Now, as you see here and in the previous pictures, this vanity has those moldings at the front and on both sides, but I didn't want to have any gaps on the left side that's where the vanity sits against the wall.

The solution was simple and there was no damage to the vanity, in case we want to move it later on.

I added a piece of 1 x 2 pine material from below the countertop and all the way down to the feet. And you have to cut off the profile of each of the moldings. So, the damage is done to the 1 x 2 piece, not to the vanity.

If you do a tight fit, you won't need glue or nails. Use wood filler to close the gaps and then sand and prime the extra piece.

Bring one of the doors to Home Depot so they can match the color. A sample was lots more than what I needed and the color was a perfect match.

Before bringing the vanity to its final place, the guy installed the faucets and let me decide if I wanted them with the plate or without it.

What do you think I chose??

Then, in its proper place, he did the double sink hook up and added the outlet on one of the drawers.

This is how that side that's against the wall looks now:

And as you can see, the new toilet is in and shiplap was installed on those walls. ;)

As for the faucets, I thought they looked way better with the plates.

Now I'm deciding if I should go with the white/grey striped rug, the one I picked long time ago, or the colorful, for the reveal pics.

Decisions, decisions...

Have a happy holiday weekend!!!

    2. LOVE the vanity...I have always loved mine but am seriously contemplating new shaker doors and painting it a soft greenish/greyish color...that is if I ever get my bath reno moving along...right now I have pebble tile propped up on my backsplash so I can look at it and decide if I want to replace the glass tile backsplash...that is as far as I have gotten...lol! Still following your progress and loving every inch of it!!! And my vote...the colorful rug.

      1. Oh Beck, you better start now! You don't want to be dealing with this type of reno during the holidays. Having all those drawers/space is a huge difference!

    3. That little side piece on the vanity is genius and looks like it came that way! I love your choices...and all those drawers on the vanity will be so useful. I like the multi- color rug as it adds a pop to the black/white/gray color scheme. Looking forward to the finished space as I know you are too!

      1. Oh Sue, those renovations turn the entire house into a huge mess! That's what i hate the most. Yes, I'm ready for the finish product. And that piece of wood was an easy fix. At first, I thought I had to cut off the counter and moldings.. Imagine that!!

      1. Five years ago I would have never thought that I'll be using gold again. Ha, I'm loving it! Thanks Vanessa!

    7. Great job, Cristina! I love the whole look, casual elegance, crisp! I like both rugs, but based on the 2 pics, I prefer the striped. The floor is gorgeous and the stripes don't compete.

      1. Thanks Guerrina! I really like your input on the rug. I like them both, but I'm having a hard time taking pictures of the colorful one. It looks very dark when taking pictures of the entire room and if I adjust the camera setting to make it look good, all the white in the bath goes over exposed! The striped one, as you say, doesn't compete.

    8. Cristina,
I absolutely love that vanity and have ever since you first showed it. I’ve enlarged the paint sample label and played with the contrast but still can’t resd the numbers. Would you be willing to share them again? I’d like to paint my crummy old vanity but it still won’t compare to yours.

      Thank you so much!

      1. The numbers right below the bar code are: 256018597598
        There's also a little box with numbers/letters.
But, if you send me an email to remodelandolacasa at gmail.com, I can send you a pic of the entire label.
Oh, and don't worry, paint can transform anything in a good way! :)

    10. Wow. I'm impressed with how you got the vanity to fit snuggly against the wall. Amazing. This look gorgeous. I can't wait to see the reveal.

    11. I love your vision for this bathroom so much! In fact, thanks to you, the fixture is already in my Home Depot cart. Also, love that tribal rug for a pop of color win! Susie from The Chelsea Project

    12. I love it! I just bought this exact same vanity last week at Costco. ($699 whooo hoo!) When you say you added an outlet in a drawer could you talk more about that? is that for hair dryers, curling irons etc? Thank you!! =)

      1. Oh girl! Love that price even better. Good for you! 👊 That's exactly why we added the outlet there in the big lower drawer, the hair dryer and flat iron space. But, also because I didn't like how the outlet looked on the side wall close to the light switches.

      2. That's what I was thinking but I can't picture it. Where did the outlet go and this might sound funny, but where does the cord that connects it go when it's closed? Like I picture it bunching up when shutting the drawer, or because there is an outlet there does the drawer now stay static? Would you mind showing a photo of the drawer with the outlet? I so appreciate it. I really love the idea of having an outlet in the drawer just can't picture the logistics of it. Thank you!
