Makita Brushless Angle Grinder Kit

Last year I was very lucky to try a good amount of new tools thanks to the ProSpective Tool Review Program with The Home Depot.

This year I'd like to give you a short review of some of those tools, let you know which applications you can put those tools to good use, and give you more details about the tool itself.

So let's start with this one: An Angle Grinder

An angle grinder is a handheld power tool used for grinding (abrasive cutting) and polishing.
Just by changing the blades or cutting discs, you can use an angle grinder to work on a great variety of materials such as metal, mortar, tile, steel, and stucco to name a few.

Some common household uses for an angle grinder are:
  • Removing rust.
  • Sharpening blades.
  • Cutting rods, bars, and bolts.
  • Routing out mortar.
  • Removing loose paint (with wire wheel)
  • Cutting tile, stucco, or cement

This Makita brushless angle grinder kit is a professional-grade tool.

Included in the kit:
  • (2) 18-Volt 5.0Ah X2 LXT Lithium-Ion high-capacity batteries.
  • Dual battery charger
  • Grinding disk
  • Cutting disk
  • (2) Different guards
  • Metal flange
  • Handle
  • Changing wrench
  • Carrying case or bag
Two of the most important factors in choosing the right grinder are disc size and how powerful the motor is.  And well, with its 7" disc size and 7,800 RPM (36V), this is the most powerful tool I've ever had.

The two 18-Volt batteries must be installed at the same time. They're protected by a welded metal roll cage to protect them in case you drop the tool. You can use these batteries on many other Makita tools.

This angle grinder tool and battery pack are equipped with a protection system that automatically cuts off power to the motor to extend the tool and battery life. The tool will automatically stop during operation if the tool or battery is overheated, low on battery or when the tool is operated in a matter that causes it to draw an abnormally high current.

The guards are very easy to change out by simply tightening the lever on them. You can also move the guard around for different cutting angles.

Other important features:

Electronically-controlled BL brushless motor efficiently uses energy to match torque and RPM to the changing demands of the application.

Automatic speed change technology adjusts speed and torque during operation for optimum performance.

Electric brake stops the grinding or cut-off wheel in 2 seconds or less

The electric brake stops the grinding or cut-off wheel in 2 seconds or less. The blades, disks, or wires stop immediately once you let go of the trigger.

Included in the battery charger is a USB port with a nice cover to keep the dust out so you can charge your phone or play some music on MP3. :)

All in all, this is an awesomely powerful tool to have around the house if you work with steel, concrete, or any other kind of heavy-duty cutting activity.  I love that is cordless!!

The only drawback, at least for me, is its weight, at almost 13 pounds, batteries included, this is way out of my control zone. However, I don't think this is a drawback for most men out there. My husband already claimed possession of it and I'm happy to oblige. ;)

This complete kit with two batteries, two 7" discs, dual charger, brushless angle grinder + bag is a great deal. Get it right HERE!

Looking for something smaller? you can get this Makita cordless 4½" compact angle grinder HERE for only $119.
