Thanks so much for all the kind comments left on my Summer home tour post!! I'm again sending a big thank you to Marty @ A Stroll Thru Life for organizing this event. You can still catch up with all the tours right here.
I set this room for the tour, but then, when you're looking at all the pictures trying to pick the ones to include in the tour you're left with so many in the archives! That's why I decided to include just one picture of this room during the tour and leave the others for this post.
The idea of setting this room as the red, white and blue or as a patriotic room was this sign
- 30" skim board I saw at HomeGoods. My first thought when I spotted it was, "hey, I can totally make this!" and I snapped a picture of it. I know the same thing happens to many of you out there. Your phone is full of images-projects in the making. ;)
The price wasn't that bad, around 15 bucks, but I couldn't buy it knowing that at home I had the perfect wood remnants to craft it.
Since the size of the skim board was way too big for a template, I printed the image on a legal size sheet of paper and folded the image to make a grid transfer drawing of the board's outline onto my piece of wood.
The board was cut out of ¼" plywood material using a jig saw.
The same image was used to blow up the letters for the sign. They were transferred onto the wood and I filled them up with a red Sharpie. Once dry, it was sealed with a coat of poly.
Then, the decorative part began. An old patriotic t-shirt was turned into a pillow case.
This is our guest bedroom, but my kids are now using it as a reading space. The red box might or might not be full of bubble gum. :)
The office part of this room stayed pretty much the same.
The painted floors have withstand the traffic nicely, considering that the paint I used was not strong. I have to say the poly has done a good job, the spot where the office chair sits it's still looking really good.
I'm telling you, there is a boy that loves the three second sugar rush these gums give him.
The wine box storage stayed the same too, the only things that were brought up one more time were the wooden stars.
I like to work in this room, it's a happy room, the red accents are so perfect to decorate it for Christmas or Summer. Do you have a room with red accents? I totally recommend them!
