Easter - Spring Mantel

Hi friends!
Are you already enjoying warmer temperatures? Around this parts, we've had a wonderful week! Rain is on its way but I'm not complaining, I'm enjoying the warmer days.
With Spring here and Easter quickly approaching, I set to work on my Easter mantel and tablescape. Lots of rabbits, eggs, chicks, and flowers have invaded my home ;)

For my mantel, I wanted a rabbit to take center stage, but I didn't want Peter Rabbit, no, he is everywhere! Instead, Gloria (as my son named her), hop out with her looong ears and rosie cheeks.

The bunny art was done on the old love wall plaque, you can check how to build it right HERE.

Now, for the painting, I chose something pretty easy, a bunny, even a child can do this project, and that's what I was going for, something that looked like it was done by a kid. Well, that's the look I wanted not only because I love it but I guess that's also my painting level.  ;)

Make your sketch and begin painting the background, two blue colors for the sky, the trick is to add lots of WATER.  Same thing for the grass, two colors and blend, blend, blend... small amounts of paint with lots of water on your brush to dilute that paint.  For the white on the bunny no water, white paint at full strength.

The last touch was writing a bunny story all around the bunny using a white paint marker. They don't last long, I used two of them.

Even with my not so neat handwriting, it looks good, from far away the lettering on the sky looks like clouds.

The bunny art was the centerpiece, I kept the rest simple.

Some eggs inside green glass cups, little green bottles...

A very simple garland made out of wooden figures, an after season sale at Target last year. You can see how to hang this kind of garland. The nails and thumbtacks are always there, if the garland is a heavy one the nails are the only ones I use, if the garland is light, like this one, tucking the thread on the tacks keeps it aligned.

Daffodils on each side frame the display.

The pretty envelope pillows shared in my last post and my new fabric painted chairs
also bring lots of Spring cheer to my family room.

  3. It all looks so pretty! The pillows look great and I can't believe you painted that yourself. My coworkers were laughing at my attempt to draw a patient's legs yesterday. They were asking what the knees and feet were, lol.

  22. For somebody that said she draws like a child you are pretty talented gal. I draw like a one year old then. No talent at drawing whatsoever. I've just had to reconcile myself to that fact.
I absolutely love your bunny art on the boards put together. It looks like it would come out of one of those fancy stores only yours is better. Your mantel looks so soft and pretty, like Easter and Spring should. Great job, I'll have to use a template to paint a bunny on anything. Hubs made me a sign last year (looks kinda like yours) so I'll sand it, repaint it, give it a try.
Your sky and grass look awesome. Now that I think of it think I'll do some chickens and a wire fence over them. Will do the sky and grass hopefully little like yours. By time I get it done it'll be a ways after Easter so no bunnies. Great project and mantel. Happy Spring.
