Patriotic Table Runner

dining table set for fourth of july with runner, metal bucket, watermelon, red tray

Decorating for the Fourth of July shouldn't be complicated or expensive and this homemade patriotic table runner that I'm featuring today is the perfect project that you can tackle in one afternoon and have ready to decorate your table this Independence day!

This is an effortless project you can accomplish in about an hour.  I spent a good amount of time looking for supplies. I don't have a set space for my crafts, they are all around the house.  So, even with all that wasted time, it was around an hour.

Drop cloth material was used for this project, you can also use burlap.  Cut it to your table's dimension. The final measurement for mine was 96" x 17",  I made it that long so I can even use it when adding one extra leaf to the table.

Using a sewing machine go all around the drop cloth making a double-turn hem.  Take advantage of the already hemmed sides on the drop cloth.  I only sewed two sides.

Use painter's tape to create the lines.  It doesn't have to be perfect, you can totally eye-ball those lines.

Once the tape is in place you can begin painting the stripes.

Yes, Sharpies ARE allowed if you're running out of fabric paint! :)  It goes even faster!

When the painting is finished you can remove the tape, let the paint dry and your table runner is done.

Ready to take center stage on the table.

Some more red, white, and blue accessories...

And it's time to celebrate!

Have a wonderful day!

  4. Hmmm - we have some old cotton curtains that I've been tearing up for plant ties - they would be a perfect material for this! I see a table runner for our patio in the works!

  16. Came over form Monday Funday Linky Party...this is awesome. Pining it to my Fourth of July board on Pinterest. I wish I could sew, but this gives me some really good ideas and like you said, I could use the one side that is already finished and then I'd ave less to hand sew. Have a great week!
