Bedroom Wallpaper Dilemma and a Winner

Bedroom Wallpaper Dilemma

Hey Everyone!

I've been busy working in so many things but in the end I haven't finished anything! It looks like I've been doing nothing at all!

Today I want to talk about my bedroom.  I began the year full steam ahead renovating it, the ugly, stained ceiling got fixed, painted, and wooden beams were added, fuff it was quite a job! I still remember being stuck up there in the attic!

Then storage problems were solved by building a bookcase/fireplace unit, another big project.

Finally, the windows got trimmed too, and I even painted around them with that pretty blue color, it looked like the room was finished, but no, far from that!

This is how it looks right now!  I simply painted around the windows because that was my first contributors writer post for Pretty Handy Girl, I couldn't send her the pictures of the pretty trimmed windows with that "poop" color on the walls!  So, that's the only part I painted.

Since I'd been out of the bedroom during all that work, tired of sleeping on a tiny bed for more than a month, I just brought my bed back and forgot about this room for a while.

I could have painted the whole room after finishing with the bookcases, but I want something different for that back wall, I want to make that wall the room's focal point.

That "something" is wallpaper and it's being a problem because I haven't found a wallpaper within my budget that I like.   For some reason I really really want to have a textured paper and here I'm going to show you the ones that I've been considering.

The first picture in this post is kind of my dream come true paper, because I like its movement, I'm such a straight lines, geometric shapes kind of person, that it's like pushing aside from lines and embracing swirls, the problem is I haven't even found if that's a wallpaper!

This next picture is more like the usual me... geometric shapes!  I like it but I'm not crazy about it.

This is different, lots of movement, but still not quite what I really want.

Eden Paintable Wallpaper

I told you, I keep on gravitating towards geometric shapes!
Cole and Son

Here again.
This white brick wallpaper is another one I really like, even though is, again, a geometric pattern, the fact that they are bricks make it a more natural selection.

I've looked at regular wallpapers too, like the one below, but then I probably can paint those designs and save me the $70/roll they cost.

That's been my dilemma and that's why that room is still a mess.  I'd like to hear from you! I'm working towards a "white room", which one do you recommend?

  1. Perhaps you could paint some geometric design on your wall (diamond shapes)?

  2. I love all the textured wallpapers. They are so pretty. Hard to pick, but I think you have great choices. Maybe something with a little bit of metallic bling. Hugs, Marty

  3. I really love wallpaper but my hubby has a real problem with it. I think it gives just a whole new feeling to the space. I love the geometric one it looks 3d and would give the space more interest.

  4. I really like the brick, but I am a traditional girl.

  5. I love the last picture, it has that metallic look to it, it is subtle but adds a great contrast and still keeps the white feel. You could paint that on in any shape, but I totally like the first picture too the swirls are pretty and they would be harder, but with a stencil? I wish you luck, because I can only dream of having this kind of dilemma! I can't motivate myself to just start a room, let alone finish one...Whatever you decide it will be wonderful, I have no doubt! Good Luck!

  6. I love grasscloth and Lowe's has some pretty affordable options. Do you want paintable wallpaper? - I'm crushing on Philip Jeffries Grasscloth wallpaper with the moroccan pattern for my Kitchen. I agree with you on a subtlle tone for that huge wall, that way you can put really cute wall art vignetes that you are so good with! Whichever you choose Cristina, with your fabulous tastes, I'm sure this bedroom will be a dream. :-)

  7. My favorite is the one from Cole and Son. I really like the geometric shape and I think it would look great in your room. The Burkedecor is a close second - I really like the shiny circles! Whatever you choose I know it will look fabulous :) Can't wait to see what you pick!

PS - Just wanted to say thank you so much for checking out my feature on ImaginAcres and commenting. I really appreciate your support! You're such a good friend :)

  8. i like the one from houzz♥

  9. Dificil , dificil , ya que no encuentro ninguno que sea como el de tus sueños, podrías ver la linea HARLEQUIN que tiene papeles lindos bastante accesibles y su venta es online

  10. I love daughter is an interior designer and she said that more and more rooms are being designed around wallpaper. I vote for the first one and the diamond pattern is a close runner up! Good luck!

  11. I love the last one, but I would probably stencil instead because of the price. I've been dying this year to stencil an octagon pattern on the wall, but I just didnt' have anywhere to do it. Maybe someone else could do it... :)

  12. So interesting how wallpaper has made a comeback. Many years ago a home just wasn't up to par if it didn't have wallpaper somewhere. Quality wallpaper has always been expensive. If you are going to be the gal that hangs it remember you are going to have to match the pattern-and of course that can lead to waste of wallpaper.(requiring more) So this may help you in your choosing! I do have a favorite-Cole and Son.
    Happy Hugs-

  13. It's hard to pick a favourite but I think the last one is my choice. I like the geometric pattern as well as the shine.

I promised myself that I would NEVER install wallpaper after removing it from so many walls over the years, but hey, never say never :)

  14. I like the Cole and Son too Cristina, but as the top of the wall is on a slant (btw love what you've done so far, especially the beams) I think something in a flowing pattern like the first one would be better - you may just have to stencil something !

  15. Just had a thought, quatrefoil wallpaper - a geometric design with curves. There are lots on google images !

  16. Why not stencil with something thick like gesso or drywall compound.....then paint the finished wall white?? Or paint the wall white and tint the gesso or dw compound what ever contrast color you want?? It would be cheaper and you could practice before actually doing the wall.

Personally, I would go with the paper I wanted, since it is only one wall.

  17. I forgot to say the brick and the grandinroad are my favorites from your choices.

  18. Gosh Cristina, so many to choose from. I can't believe how pricey wall paper is. I bought some beadboard paper and the cheapest I could find was from Lowes at $19.00 a roll. It is also the worst paper I have used as it tore very easily. I think paint is the way to go but so much work to stencil. Love love love the first one from Shopten 25. Looking forward to seeing what you do. I know it will be stunning.

  19. I'm with you and gravitate to the more geometric shapes! But am thinking maybe you should stencil -- that way you can get exactly what you want and show us how you did it! You might even be able to score a free stencil too ...

    :) Linda

  20. I would like to encourage you to Bedloo your question. It is a site just for decisions like yours. In fact their slogan, is let the world help you decide. You can see one on my blog of how I had a decision between a couple of table choices. I hope you will come visit me. It was a post previous the one on my bedroom. I hope you will give it a try.
Good luck to you on your decision. I can see you have very good taste!

  21. If you could stencil instead of wallpaper, that'd be the way that I would go. The last time I put up wallpaper, I swore I'd never do it again. Frustrating work, expensive, and hard to un-do.

  22. Hi Cristina! I'm with you, I LOOOOOVE the first one. It would be my #1 pick, with the brick coming in second. Oh, and I know you already know this, but painting the wall with wallpaper primer first will make eventual removal a dream. I posted about it here:
I enjoy putting up wallpaper, it's about as satisfying as painting a room because it changes the look of a room so quickly. :) Good luck, and I can't wait to see what you decide on!

  25. hERE IS A THOUGHT! I love the wallpaper. But if you could stencil paint it instead of wallpaper. Do it.Cause its easier to paint over a wall then take wall paper off:)

  26. So pretty! I love the bricks.
